A resident of Whitley County (Columbia City area), Indiana, I operate my
studio/gallery, “Diamente Artworks”, where I teach weekly watercolor and/or
mixed media classes and workshops, and take commissions. I also travel to
give workshops, lectures and demonstrations. I work in several media,
primarily watercolor, collage (and sometimes porcelain painting) and paint a
variety of subjects..especially nature.
I work both representational and non-representational although many people think of me as a floral or landscape artist. Although I look at actual objects, paint plein aire or use
photographs that I have taken personally, I use them for observation only
and try to paint my emotional response to the subject to develop meaningful
imagery. I want my paintings to be joyful, beautiful, uplifting, passionate
and sometimes mysterious. I try to keep my paintings alive with deep, rich
color, detail, strong contrast and juicy brushstrokes. I want them complex,
so that they seem to have many depths of layers retreating back into space.
In the past several years I have also been designing hand appliqué image
quilts and wall hangings. I have taught classes in appliqué and have had
some success marketing the patterns locally in quilt shops.
